Bathroom Lighting Woes

Saturday, February 21, 2015

Are you all tired of the "Blizzard of 2015?"  We got 1 inch of snow and 1/4 inch of ice in Raleigh and school was closed ALL WEEK!  My whole family is ready to pull their hair out.  Now that the weekend is officially here and our new bathroom lights arrived, I was hoping that we could get the majority of the bathroom redo finished. And that my new bath would look like this:

Yeah right!  I don't have that kind of reno budget but a girl can dream.

I opened the light boxes and they are gorgeous!  I paid close attention to the wattage when ordering the lights and these take 3-65 watt bulbs.  Not bad. But, they are chandelier bulbs which put out less lumens.  Womp womp.  So now we are back to the drawing board.

I am considering these, but am not sure about the shades.

This light would be perfect for the boys bathroom.

I love this look! But it wood involve an electrician and cutting the mirror.

Decor Pad

This look would allow us to use the new mirrors, but still involves an electrician.

I can't find affordable (under $200 each), beautiful, bright light, 3 bulb chrome lights anywhere! Extra points for chrome or crystal accents. No fabric shades.

We struck out at Lowes, Home Depot, Joss & Main, Overstock, and Lamps Plus.  But maybe we missed something.  Any suggestions?

Decor inspiration from a Hotel

Tuesday, February 17, 2015

Today was part snow day, part work from home day and a whole lot of juggling.  Am I the only Mom that feels like I come up short in all areas on days like today?  School is cancelled tomorrow too! Yikes!

Yesterday I posted about some awesome gold and white ceramics from Zgallerie.  Then I remembered that I had seen them before.  In my real life, full-time job, I work in the hospitality field and went on a work field trip to see the new Courtyard and Residence Inn Richmond Downtown. Yall, they are gorgeous hotels!  SO cool!

I love this gallery wall! It's a great mix of shapes and different kinds of art with silhouettes, black and white photography and color artwork.

They also mixed in a lot of white ceramic books.

I found many of the artifacts at ZGallerie if you want to achieve a similar look in your home with white and gold decor.

Which piece is your favorite?

Bathroom Lighting

Monday, February 16, 2015

Hey ya'll!  It's snowing here in Raleigh!  Just a tiny bit so far, but school has already been cancelled for tomorrow.

The crown molding is up in our Master Bath!

And we purchased mirrors! Can you tell that I am excited?!? Thank you to everyone who commented on the blog and my Facebook page.  If you follow me on Instagram then you already know which one we picked...none that were shown!

I loved this mirror from ZGallerie, but not the price tag.

And I needed two!  That was over my budget for the entire bathroom redo. We headed to Kirkland's to pick up one of the mirrors in the mock up below (the lower left one).

Luckily, I found a look for less option at Kirkland's. And they were on sale for $38!  And we had a coupon!

This picture is awful, so check out my Instagram for a better one.

While on the Zgallerie site I found these lovelies on sale:

Back to the bathroom, we ordered these lights from Lowe's.

Now we just have to paint, install mirrors, install lights, hang new towel bars and we will be done. If only it were that easy.

Stay warm and cozy!

Spa Master Bath-Mirror Decisions

Sunday, February 8, 2015

Hey guys!  I hope you are having a great weekend so far.  We had a blast today at two different birthday parties.

I am trying to finalize my plans and my budget for our Master Bathroom update.  You may recall that it is builder boring with the original antique white paint on the walls.  I posted a design board here if you want to check it out. It doesn't need much, just a little sprucing up.  I think new mirrors, vanity lights, chandelier, paint and crown molding, and window treatments will do the trick.

I mocked up my top mirror choices and would love your opinion.  I am leaning towards one in particular.  Which one is your favorite?

2 Story Foyer to Larger Bonus Room

Friday, January 30, 2015

Happy Saturday!  I started a new job January 12th has my head spinning!  I have a lot to learn and I am loving it.  I don't know if it's the career change or the fact that it is a new year, but my creative wheels are spinning in terms of our house.

We built our house and shortly after moving in we wished that we had the builder frame our 2 story foyer as a 1 story foyer which would then provide an additional 60 square feet to our bonus room upstairs.  We are currently reviewing quotes from contractors to do just that.  In the mean time, this is what I am picturing for the space.

I am no longer in love with our big, brown sectional that was in our old living  room, but it is comfortable and practically indestructible.  I really can't justify replacing it in our boys' hangout room.

My goals for the new space include:
TV Watching
Gaming
Beverage & Snack Center
Desks
Floor space to wrestle (they are boys after all)

The boys will still use the Dining Room aka Lego Library for lego building.

To meet these goals we need:
2 desks on casters and desk chairs
Bean bag chairs
Mini fridge
Wall Art
Window treatments-shades and cornices (this is embarrassing...we have paper shades in here still)
Pillows

Do you have a kid/teen hangout space?  What are essential functions in the space?

Mirror mirrors on the wall

We finally hung the mirrors ya'll!

I started by laying them out on the floor.  I still couldn't get a good idea of how they would look hung in the corner. Please forgive the horrible lighting and crappy iPhone photos, but they will give you an idea of the process.

Luckily the Target mirrors come with templates printed on the back of the packaging.  I cut them all out and traced the other mirrors onto newspaper and cut them out too.  Then I hung the templates on the wall with painters tape.

Then all we had to do was hammer in some nails and hang the mirrors.  Easy peasy!

And here's the final results!

I am sharing on

I am loving how Lisa at Shine Your Light updated her Living Room.  It looks classic, comfortable and just gorgeous!

Craigslist Finds

Wednesday, January 28, 2015

Bless'er House recently posted about 18 Tips for Better Craigslisting.  Lauren also shared a breakdown of items purchased and their price tag.  You should check it out!

Lauren is definitely a Craigslist Pro!  I got to thinking...I have gotten quite a bit of furniture myself from Craigslist.

Here's the breakdown:

Desk  $100

Bamboo nesting tables $20 (not pictured yet).

Gorgeous french cane wingback chair for $75 (worth $1200!!!)

Solid oak kitchen table $150

Dining table aka Lego Table $75. Check out this before shot!!!

After:

Chandelier $30 (pictured above)

Buffet $60 (not shown on other side of room).

Mantel $30 (shown above, cut apart and hung as a shelf)

Dresser $150  (not shown)

Bar cart $3

Wood curtain rod $2

Bedroom set (2 dressers and 1 night stand) $150

End tables $110

Chifarobe $60

Bookshelf $20

Closet bookshelves $75 for 3

Grand Total = $1,110

I think that is a lot of furniture for the money!  I don't know what I would do without Craigslist. And that doesn't even include the furniture that I have purchased, refinished, used and then resold.  I was not in any way compensated by Craigslist, I just love their site.  If you are local to Raleigh, please leave me the good stuff :)

Happy Hunting!
