When this family moved into their new home in Wake Forest, North Carolina, the house checked so many boxes. It had beautiful living spaces, plenty of room for gathering, and multiple areas for meals and entertaining.
But there was one thing missing: a dedicated in-home office.

And in a world where so many families are working from home, managing busy schedules, and needing a quiet place to focus, that missing office space mattered.
The good news? This home already had an outdoor dining space, a breakfast room, and a dedicated dining room. So instead of letting the formal dining room sit unused most of the time, we gave it a new purpose.
We transformed the dining room into a beautiful, functional home office.

We transformed the dining room into a beautiful, functional home office.
But there was one thing missing: a dedicated in-home office.
Formal dining rooms can be gorgeous, but for many families, they simply don’t get used every day.
This family had other places to enjoy meals together, so converting the dining room into a home office made perfect sense.
The goal was to create a space that felt intentional, elevated, and connected to the rest of the home — not like a random desk dropped into a dining room.
We wanted the room to feel like it had always been designed this way.
Adding Custom Wood and Glass Sliding Doors
This detail completely changed the feel and function of the space.
The glass allows natural light to continue flowing through the home, while the wood adds warmth, character, and a custom architectural element. The sliding doors also create separation when needed, which is huge for anyone working from home.
You get privacy without closing the room off completely.
It’s stylish, practical, and such a smart use of space.
A Home Office That Feels Beautiful and Functional
This Wake Forest home office now gives the family a dedicated place to work, take calls, manage schedules, and focus — all without sacrificing the overall flow of the home.
Instead of a formal dining room that may have only been used a few times a year, they now have a room that supports their everyday life.
And that’s what good interior design should do.
It should make your home more beautiful, yes — but it should also make your home work better for the way you actually live.
Why This Dining Room Conversion Works
This project is such a great reminder that you don’t always need more square footage. Sometimes you just need to rethink the square footage you already have.
By turning the dining room into a home office, this family gained a dedicated workspace while still keeping plenty of dining options throughout the home.
The custom sliding doors helped define the room, added architectural interest, and gave the office a polished, finished look.
It’s a perfect example of form meeting function.
